Crash

Just finished watching Crash, which I've loan from VideoEzy. After watching it, you can really feel that it deserves the Oscar much more than Brokeback Mountain. While Brokeback Mountain brought the taboo issue of homosexual into big screens all over the world and won Lee Ang the Best Director award, Crash shows the very real issue of racial discrimination and blurs the line between good and bad. It also shows how complete strangers and touch each other's lifes and completely change it. A very good show, two thumbs up.

  1. Beg to differ. While Crash is a very good movie, I seriously believe that it’s more suitable for a tv screening, and win an Emmys instead of Oscars. It lacks the widescreen appeal, and furthermore the topic of racism has been featured a couple of times in American drama series before. Brokeback Mountain touches on topic still considered taboo and not discussed openly. Ang Lee’s direction and the way the movies was shot was excellent compared to Crash’s tv-series like cinematography.
    Just my 2cents worth. 🙂

  2. I agree with the direction and the shooting style of Brokeback, thats why it won the Best Director for Lee Ang (Lee Ang, Ang Lee… Well, I’m Chinese, so I’m putting the surname 1st). But regarding the story, it is still the basic age old story of two lovers who couldn’t be together which has been done to death since the last few centuries in almost all love stories. (Romeo and Juliet anyone?) And Crash does not only show racism, it also shows how there is no such thing as good or bad and that we are humans afterall, capable of acting both good and bad.
